More pool metaphors! PLS!
I was a competitive swimmer for over 10 years and I’m seeing a real missed opportunity when it comes to puns and metaphors to explain technical stuff. I put together this list of key pool vocab that can be incorporated. I defined the less common ones and starred the ones that must be incorporated asap for maximum pun points. Puns make people happy and they totally match the laid-back vibe of PoolTogether. I’ve already mixed a few into the first two ideas ;)

Pool Vocabulary:
- Sink or Swim*
- Floaties
- Goggles
- Swim cap
- Coach
- Dryland - conditioning and stretches on dry land instead of in the pool
- Deep end
- Diving board
- Water slide
- Dive in
- Come on in, the water’s fine*
- Starting blocks
- Relay race
- Lifeguards
- Laps
- Medly - competitive event where one swimmer swims 1 lap of each stroke (everyone hates it, it’s no fun)
- Lane lines - separators between lanes
- Flags - above the pool so swimmers know when to flip turn during backstroke
- Events - individual race
- Swim Meet - you already use this one, yay! This is a competition between teams
- Flip turn
- Disqualified
- Sprint
- Streamline
- Pool noodle
- On deck - When you’re next up in an event
- Swim club - non-competitive swim teams
- Heats - There are multiple heats for each event if there are more swimmers than lanes
